If you often play concerti with orchestra, this is the perfect violin for you. It has a beautiful tone that carries straight to the back of the hall.

Description

A modern violin with a classic sense of style. This personal model (Model Y) is designed from scratch with only acoustics in mind. I recently showed off my personal model violin to a group of other luthiers, and they kept asking me “what is this based off of?” They were shocked when I told them I didn’t copy the outline from another maker, but instead drew the shape using circles and distances based on the harmonic proportions found in music.

Most violins made in the past 300 years have followed one of two paths: Strad or Guarneri. Both are undoubtedly beautiful, but I wanted to create something completely my own. Something completely original, that also felt natural to play, and had a gorgeous and powerful sound. After many iterations, I am finally elated with the results: a violin that can easily project to the back of the hall, then switch to delivering the most intimate melody, all with a tone to die for.

I can’t wait for you to try it!

Made from Val di Fiemme spruce, and balkan flamed maple. The fingerboard is made from Corene, a eco-composite.

After finishing this violin, I didn’t list it for sale for several years (until now!), and instead used it to play several concertos with orchestra and quartet performances. Each time I played it in a performance, I was complimented on the tone and volume! The only reason I’m listing it now, is that I’m playing less (because I’m spending more time making), and I wanted this violin to start living its life outside of my shop.
