$13,000.00

This might be the perfect baroque gigging viola! It’s lightweight, easy to tune and play, and sounds great!

This viola is currently in a ‘hybrid’ setup, with a baroque tailpiece and gut strings. The pegs are mechanical, making tuning without a fine A-string tuner a breeze.

Personal model (A form, or Symphony model) viola made by Nathan Giglierano and completed in March 2021. Labeled #11 | 2021.

15 ¾″ (402mm) Viola designed by Nathan Giglierano in Madison, Wisconsin in 2019. Made from the best European tonewood. Incredible sound in a very easy to play package.

Willow and Poplar are commonly used materials for violas and cellos, and often produce a darker sound than the same instrument made in Maple.

This is the Italian Poplar version of Nathan’s personal model viola. Click here to see the Maple version.

Description

Viola made from European tonewood. Spruce from the Val di Fiemme in Italy (where the old Italian master maker families like the Amati, Stradivari, and Guarneri supposedly sourced their tops). The back is made from a beautiful single piece of Italian Poplar.

This viola model was designed by Nathan for maximum ease of playing, and for the best tone possible in a smaller and lighter instrument. The tone is gorgeous, for a viola of any size.

Designed in 2019, the first two (#6 and #9) sold immediately to the first players that tried them.

This instrument is perfect for the seasoned symphony player looking for an easier-to-play instrument that doesn’t compromise on tone.
